Your agent.
Your app. Connected.
Let OpenAI Codex or Claude Code work with the project open in Appmost. Connect through local MCP, make a focused change, and review the result in the native preview.
Choose your agent.
Before you connect.
- Have Appmost installed on your Mac, sign in, and open the project you want to work on.
- Install and sign in to your chosen agent. Its command,
codexorclaude, must be available in Terminal. - Open Appmost’s Settings and choose External Agents. Older versions may call this Local Agent.
- Enable Allow external agents to use Appmost tools and keep Appmost open while working.
The setup command comes from Appmost on your Mac. It includes the correct bridge path and current connection address, so you do not need to guess a port or write a configuration file by hand.
Start small. See the result.
Ask your agent to inspect the project first. Then ask for one screen or one change at a time. Use the native preview to decide what to keep before expanding the app.
Use the Appmost MCP tools to inspect the currently open project and list its pages. Summarize the main navigation and suggest one improvement. Do not change the project yet.
A few useful distinctions.
Is this the same as adding an OpenAI or Anthropic API key?
No. MCP gives your agent access to Appmost’s tools. Sign in to Codex or Claude Code with the account you normally use. This local setup does not ask you to paste an AI provider API key into Appmost or this website.
Can I paste the local address into ChatGPT or Claude on the web?
The connection described here runs on your Mac. A cloud service cannot reach your Mac through its own 127.0.0.1 address. Use the local Codex or Claude Code instructions for this workflow. Remote MCP connectors have a separate setup and authentication flow.
Does local MCP mean the AI runs entirely on my Mac?
No. Appmost keeps the project and bridge on your Mac, while your chosen agent may send prompts and tool results to its AI service. Your agent’s account, permissions and data settings still apply.
How do I stop the connection?
Turn off Allow external agents to use Appmost tools in Appmost’s External Agents settings. You can also remove the Appmost MCP entry from your agent’s configuration.
